President's speech on Tin Hau's Birthday
Saturday - June 8, 2013 5:40 am
It is a well-known fact that the celebration of the birth day of the Goddess of the Sea, also known as TIN HAU, is on the twenty-third day of the third Chinese lunar month.

In ancient times and even now, the Goddess of the Sea is mostly revered by fisherman and those whose life and destiny are tied, in some way or other, to the sea.

This annual event is widely celebrated due to the fact that, according to Chinese beliefs, honouring her bring safety, security, fine weather and full fishing nets during the year.

Traditionally, members of the Nam Shun Fooy Koon organise prayers and dinner to commemorate this special event on the eve and on the date marking her birth.

We also wish to state that during the past months, lot of works have been done for the setting-up of a parking area next to the Pagoda. Hence, since works have just been completed, the executive committee of the Nam Shun Fooy Koon seized the opportunity of today’s celebration to inaugurate its parking area prior to its use. To that end, a lion dance group has performed across the area to mark this event.

The executive committee wish to express their deepest thanks to the under-mentioned benefactors who have contributed in the setting up of this infrastructure.
